A quiet day

Rain again in Hobart and didn't bother to stay up waiting. Luckily I managed to reverse out my bet on the first match.

Got up in time for the Sydney final only to see the second Hobart semi was also on, so decided to concentrate on that as I thought there was more scope for some fun. Kookie had played quite well yesterday, winning the first set against Bart fair and square before Bart decided to tank the second set. But she didn't really get a blow in today, while there was a big gubbing in Sydney! Ah well, got that wrong.

Nothing now till the NFL playoffs continue Saturday and Sunday night, then Melbourne starts straight afterwards. Betfair have said there'll be markets for the final round of qualies, but not sure if that's Saturday or Sunday, and I'll believe that when I see them.

Edit : wtf am I talking about? There's the Hobart final tomorrow! LOL

Hobart actually managed to get their whole schedule back on track, though some players had to double up. Whether this was the cause of some of the favs losing, or whether it was partly tanking with Melbourne so close, we'll never know!

Seething that I went in too deep on Jovanovski. And I cocked up the Kookie vs Brianti match as it was on at the same time and I wasn't paying enough attention to it. Doh.

Not much action today, with Hobart being completely washed out. They're going to struggle to complete the tournament with a poor forecast for the next few days and the Aus Open looming, which gives them no room for an overrun.

Was surprised to see Jovanovski win, as usually when I flag up a performance of note on here the player has a stinker next match up! Here's an eyewitness account of her match with Rezai and today's with Penne. Shows there's often a lot more to a match than the bare scoreline!

And it's always nice to see Kleybanova winning. She's not got a body type best suited for the sport so it's great to see her do well. None of us choose how we're born, we can only play the cards we're dealt.

It'll be interesting to see reaction to the alleged sex tape of Vesnina that's been leaked on the web. The WTA seems to have been deliberately promoting a sexier image for the players in the past couple of years. Lets hope there's no double standards applied.

Had a short nap after the Jovanovski match and missed the off for Clijsters. By the time I woke up her price had collapsed, dammit!

Value??? What's that?

Raining again in Hobart, so thought I'd post a snippet I read while researching the NFL playoffs last week. Although this was written with USA sports markets in mind, it equally applies to any binary market, and by extension all sports markets. I can't remember the site I read it on so can't give credit. Apologies if the author reads it and is offended.

"Odds makers will tell you their job is not to predict an event's outcome but, rather divide the public as to who it thinks will win. "When the oddsmakers have set a point spread properly," said Howard Martin, a noted expert on how odds are calculated, "there will be an equal number of people betting each side of the line." "

Rain, rain, and more rain. A frustrating day, but ultimately worth the wait. (The ATP bet was a one-off as Malisse had to be opposed having reached the final in Chennai just 2 days ago and travelled from there to NZ)

Bojana Jovanovski is worth adding to the list of players to follow this year, posting a nice win over the dangerous Rezai.

Liquidity in running is appalling!

Had a few small bets last night, but eventually gave up as liquidity was so poor. Had to take very poor odds to reverse a bet that I got a bit leery about, and didn't want to risk that happening again.

The NFL playoffs were pretty amazing, with 3 dogs winning. I was on the wrong side of the incredible Seattle win, but not bothered. Without upsets like that there wouldn't be odds, so you just have to accept it and hopefully the staking plan will cope.
